View Full Version : How do you have your PX4 set-up?

Just curious what types of tweaks, mods and parts are being done to everyones PX4's.

I have done a few things to mine and I am quite satisfied with the set-up I have. It looks quite decent too. Thats always a plus.

The same week I got mine (NIB) I ordered the stealth lever kit from dave Olhasso. Took about 15 mins to get the levers and the slim slide lock installed. I was so tired of being bitten by the "batwings" when I would slingshot the slide. Plus the kit makes the PX4 look so much better IMHO.

Next was a trigger job performed by none other than.......ME. I did it simple though. Just polishing of the main contact points between the sear and hammer. Did a light buff of the trigger bar as well. No spring changes or anything like that. So the trigger is not lighter, but much smoother with a very nice crisp break in SA. It is a defense/combat pistol after all. So I do not want too light of a pull.

Then it was time to get rid of the "poo-poo" color of the barrel. I hated how it looked. The entire pistol is a beautiful Bruniton black with a shit colored barrel peeking out of the chamber and the end of the slide. First I tried to just remove the finish and polish it myself. It looked really good. Until.........RUST started showing up. I guess the carbon steel used for Beretta barrels is not all that great. Or possibly I just did not polish it as fine as needed. Anyways, off to Robar for the NP3 treatment. I am very happy to say that even after 13K rounds post NP3 treatment, the barrel still looks like it did the day it arrived from Robar.

Also I had Steve Bedair custom make me a stainless guide rod. What a great addition. Not to mention Mr. Bedair was a complete pleasure to deal with. The cost? $35 including shipping. The turn around time? Exactly 7 days! I had to ship my original to Mr. Bedair so he could re-use the same end cap and recoil spring. So the original plastic guide rod is broken in the process to get the cap and spring off. No biggie though. I would never put a plastic one back in anyways. The end result is the gun has a bit more heft under the barrel and "felt" recoil is reduced by I would guess 10%. And it does feel like it cycles much smoother as well.

And the most recent purchase was a OMBU Z5 tac light. It is a bit inferior to say an M3 or a TRL-1, but for a nightstand pistol, it works great. I picked it up about 6 or 8 weeks ago and even as much as I "test" (really meaning play with) it, the original batteries are still going quite strong.

Also just with in the last week I have swapped out the medium backstrap for the larger backstrap. Just makes it a bit more beefy and seems to fit my hand much better. The large backstrap is the only thing missing from the pics.

Mine is just like it came from the factory.
How much did the barrel treatment cost?
I would like to get some trigger work done, but not sure about the cost.
I want to convert it to G.
I'm going to get a hogue slip on grip. I'm also going to try and find a small backstrap. Mine only came with one, and I know I won't want the big one.

Stock px4 with the small back strap with a hogue handall slip on(perfect...and I mean perfect now, had the medium on with the slip on but it was a lil large for this monkey). I want a G-thang but I want the bat wings for some grip...I have never been bitten yet by the bat wings, of course I will probably every time now since Guinea had to say that:pissed::D.

However my future px4 mods will be Trijicon NS's, NP3 barrel, and polishing my trigga:limp:

Guinea,

You have 14k rounds through your Px4 ?? WOW ! How long have you had it?

Do you shoot IDPA? If so, wouldn't the SS guide rod make it illegal? I'd have to recheck the rules but that popped into my mind while I was reading your post.

WOW does that barrel look GOOD !!

Hell yes it does...I will have to get mine treated, Guinea, did you use flitz to polish the whole thing???? Inside the barrel also???? It looks like you polished it with flitz or something... 65 is expensive compared to CCR's prices but damn that barrel looks nice:beavisnbutthead:

I have had it about a year and a half now. No, I do not compete in IDPA. I shoot for pure pleasure and to stay sharp just in case the SHTF. ;)

Thanks on the barrel compliment. I am quite pleased with it. Both on looks and function.

I used something similar. Its called MAAS metal polish. A small silver and blue tube, can be picked up almost anywhere. I think I got mine at ACE hardware. It was like 4 or 5 bucks. In conjunction with the MAAS polish I used super fine steel wool. Gives it that nice even polish.

I did not have the inside of the barrel done. But as you know the crown is slightly recessed (similar to an Elite II barrel) to protect the barrel rifling's. So the NP3 covers right up to the point of the rifling's, so it does not interfere with the Beretta chrome lining.

$65 did not seem that bad to me. CCR does not offer the same type of finish as Robar. The treatments are quite different. Even hard chrome on a barrel will peel/chip/flake off after so many rounds. I can attest to this because I used to have a Kimber Pro BP that I have the slide and barrel hard chromed. After hand cycling the slide about 10 times, the finish on the barrel started to scratch and peel instantly. And it was done by Tripp Research, certainly not a "fly by night" operation. And after 13K rounds post NP3 treatment, and the barrel still looks like new, I would have to say $65 is rather cheap. ;)

when you get the np3 treatment done, do they do any polishing, or do you have to do it all ahead of time?

You send them your barrel "as is". They bead blast it, treat it, then send it back with a dull matte grey (duct tape colored) finish. And it DOES add surface, so it makes tollerances very tight. So I polished myself to make it cycle smoother and I wanted a higher luster than how it was sent to me. When I first installed it (before polishing) it was actually a bit difficult for the slide to cycle. Again, that was due to the added surface. But once I polished it, it cycled sooo smooth.
