Any ideas of what brand or model guys?
Probably a 308 that I can hunt whitetail with.
Any advice will be appreciated.

I have a Rock River Arms flat top with a quad rail that is nice.
Then there's Bushmaster, DPMS, Stag, Colt... Depends on what you want and how deep your pockets are. I've heard Colt is the top of the line.
These things can get very expensive quick. Lights. Lasers, Scopes, sights, extra mags, slings. You can easily spend more on accessories than the rifle itself costs...
But they are sweet investments and fun as hell to shoot!!

I would be buying a lower at first and building from there. I suppose I would like to have options open, however I would just want to put a good scope on it at first.
I always look at Bushies for some reason, yet is there one brand that would be better for building? <Compatibility wise>

DPMS sells full building kits, but it shouldn't matter if you mix different companies. I believe AR's are all built to the same specs so they're all compatible.
Midways USA has complete uppers on sale right now.

I wasn't sure if I could mix different makers. Most likely I wouldn't but it's good to know..
What would be your personal choice?

For AR's I really don't have one. I only have the one and I'm not familiar with others yet. I would imagine though, that any of the top makers would be a good choice.
My RRA is a very nice, but if I was to buy another, which I am planning on real soon, I'd probably try a Bushmaster, a S&W M&P or a Colt. Some are very plain looking and some just have that hi-tech look. I prefer the latter.
There's tons of AR's out there and all are cool in their own way. Look up the different brands and models and see what appeals to you, but be warned they are addictive!! :)

I believe all are interchangeable exect Olympic arms(IIRC)...can anyone verify?
I have also been looking at AR 15 or 10....looks like it is cheaper to build an ar-15, but cheaper to buy an AR-10...saw some basic ones on gb for $800 buy it now.
Through my research i have found that a good (low priced) lowers and uppers from del-ton, and they have kits also. The guys on ar-15.com swear by them for the entry level/first build. They also say to stay the hell away from blackthorne , they are the "pieces of shit" in the ar world.

If you go looking for a scope I have a leatherwood bdc scope 3-9x40 that I could possibly sell. I like the scope as it is easy range in, but it's too much scope for my .223 bushy. If you are intersted let me know and we could possibly work something out.
As to AR's in general, I have a Bushmaster and love it. very accurate with the carry handle iron sights and I can remove the handle to mount a scope when I need to very easily. DPMS is also another good choice. My only recommendation is to decide on what you want in an AR then see if anyone has one with the setup you want. If you can't find one, then see who carries the parts that you do want for your AR and go from there.
Good luck whichever way you go. Black rifles are awesome in my book and I won't be giving mine up any time soon.

That's sort of what I was thinking... Time to stock up now. They are definitely going to lock down on toys of this kind.
be interested in an Armalite AR10T ?
(also has a Springfield Armory 4-14X56 2nd Gen. scope on it)

I looked at one of them too... out of curiousity how much would you be looking to get for it?
it is a standard AR10-T
Model: AR-10(T) with Free Float Handguard in Black
Caliber: .308
Barrel: 24" Triple Lapped, Stainless Steel, Heavy (target crown)
Rifling Twist: RH 1:11.25"
Muzzle Device: None
Front Sight Base: Gas Block with Picatinny Rail
Upper Receiver: Forged Flattop with Picatinny Rail
Trigger: Two Stage National Match
Overall Length: 43.5"
Weight: 10.4 lbs
Finish: Hard Anodized Aluminum, Manganese Phosphated Steel
Accuracy: 1 MOA
I the original owner, bought it back in Oct 2000 & probably have somewhere around 500 rounds through it. All rounds through it have beeh Hornady 30503 168gr BTHP(M) with 48.5 grains of Win760 and a COAL of 2.785" with factory crimp yielding about 2625 fps.
Since I have numerous others, I tend to not shoot that one as much anymore... it is turning into a safe queen and I've been thinking of letting it go to someone who will put it to good use.
OH, UGH... this one would hurt to sell but to a good home I would probably part with it for say $2,000 plus whatever it takes to get it shipped.
That shipping part is a pain in the @$$... I'd be more inclined to readily accept $2K on a F2F.
Here are my other babies...

Thats a hell of a setup you have there... The .308 has got to be a nice chunk of change to shoot huh? However if I could, I would be all over your offer, it's just a bad time at least for me with Christmas. I have a large family .....
Well, not horribly... there use to be lots of military surplus 7.62 around that was copper jacket, lead core but then most of that turned to lead core, steel jacket that is copper clad... lots of people tend to think that will wear out a barrel faster but I don't totally agree with that. copper is more dense than steel so the steel would have to be made thinner to allow for more lead to make the bullet the desired end resulting weight... then you have to get into which would deform easier, etc.... but even USA produced Winchester 7.62 nato stuff is the copper clad steel jacket stuff.
Anyway... to reload... once you have your brass...
1000 primers are still about $20
projectiles are $30/100 so say $300/1000
powder 1 lb = 7000 gr so 144 bullets per lb powder (at 48.6 gr/bullet) so 7 lbs of powder at about $18/lb giving us $126
So if you have brass... 1,000 top quality bullets can be loaded for just $446.

Olympic is compatible with 99% of everyone else's stuff except Colt.
Colt is the oddball that isn't compatible with other folks upper or lower recievers because they use a larger takedown and pivot pin holes in their recievers. But still yet, there are adapter pins available for those that do want to mix them.
and it is sad what .308 ammo has done lately (all ammo actually)
stuff I was paying $160-180/1,000 for is now $140/200
thank god I stocked up when I did!
