Morning all. Look forward to any insights fellow members have on gun topics in general. New to the "handgun" scene. Both the wife and myself have joined out local range and I just bought my new Beretta 92FS 9mm on friday.
Recently applied for my Concealed Carry - Passed - waiting patiently for the mail.:blastin:

Wow, someone that purchased a Beretta over a Glock?

Someone with taste and brains is always welcome!

Now all you have to do is learn the secret handshake and get the tattoo!

I wasn't sure about the rules here about posting other links, but I pointed him to Beretta Forum just in case.

This site lacks written rules, which is great.

thanks for that blackjack! When trying to decide what pistol to buy, I tried out several at our local range before I did anything.
-The Beretta 92 fit my hand, balanced well, and shot fantastic! (I actually hit where I was shooting)
-The Glock 26 I tried...well....nope not going to buy ANY of them....shhh not a big fan of tupperware.
If fact any of the smaller framed guns I tried, didn't like too much either.
Nope...Beretta is just fine.:logic:

Beretta's are fine guns and they're gorgeous too! Glock is all kinds of FUGLY, but very good guns as well. I never was a fan of them either, but I do enjoy my G34 and look forward to buying a G17. :)

In the next year I have I several guns to buy. A 1911, a couple shotties, another Glock and after all that I'll just go with whatever catches my eye, Maybe a few revolvers.

Then I hope the fever breaks just a little. :D

welcome to the forum, nice choice on the 92.

are you going to carry it when you get your cpl/ccw? or get another one for CC

I actually was planning to use the 92 as my carry, but after getting it, well I not positive it will work anymore. Don't get me wrong I luv it, but the holster choices I've found available to a guy my size - 6'05" and pushing 340lbs it sticks out like a sore thumb. I prefer a shoulder or outer waist holster. In pants a no-go.
I am considering a smaller Beretta or I had my eye on a Bersa Thunder .380, but small pistols don't fit my hand worth a damn. Revolvers either. Jury is still out as to just what I'm going to do. If anybody has a suggestion?

Thanks

Damn Cupsz...At 6'5" who's gonna fuck with you anyway?

I know what you mean though. I'm a pretty big fella myself. I've found though that carrying IWB in the small of my back works very well and shoulder rigs. Although the shoulder rig does print a bit more, but I live in a carry state, not a conceal state so I don't give too much thought into that part of it.

The problem with SOB carry is you have to remove it to sit.

I guess it really depends on how you dress too.

Yep your right, a guy my size I'm usually not bothered too much, and most like having me in their corner.

As for casual dress, mainly jeans w/tee shirt with a light/winter coat -(remember its gets really chilly up here!) oh and WINDY!! The shoulder rig is still my prefered preference for a Consealed Holster at this point. It doesn't "print" much if I'm wearing a big jacket or pull-over....just hard to get at quickly if needed. I'm still looking for a hip rig for the range & the Blackhawk CQC Serpa is probably what I'll get for that.

The one thing I want to state "for the record" is that eveything for me started 2 months ago when my wife was given her fathers pistol & we decided this could be a hobby we could do together, all I needed was a pistol of my own.

I'll admit the CC permit was originally more for me avoiding the embarrasment of what I was sure to be the hassle of buying a handgun and having to present my INS No#......Canadian in the house....to a dealer when filling out the paperwork for a BG check. (It all actually turned out to be NOTHING!! The simple fact is that after living in the states for over 12 yrs now, my INS No# is in more Federal Databases with info on me for a BG check than most Americans themselves)

My gun dealer was admittedly somewhat unfamilliar with having to sell to an individual who was just a perminant resident, not a citizen, but knowing me thru work, recomended getting a CC and put me on the path towards getting it. So I took the course and discovered that having a CC would help for transporting to/from range and travel in general and it also rolled into the fact my job takes me to pretty obscure B.F.N locations where sometimes safety and wildlife can be an issue. I've learned more about gun laws and rules, shooting/self-defence/weapons/ammo and overall safety in the last 6 wks than what I'd ever though I already knew.

This "mindset" of a CC is all still something I'm getting used too, -still waiting for it in the mail by the way- but forums like this one have provied endless insight into all sorts of things I've never considered. I think the most surprising thing I've discovered is that I'm having "fun" not just with the actuall shooting aspect.......but with the people I'm meeting and how helpfull and honest everybody is.

I had no idea. Thanks all.:Peace!:

I am just an average sized guy with a bit of a spread and I perfer IWB. After trying 6 or 7 carry guns all of which I liked I ended up with a Sig P220R Carry in a VMII

well i'm on the other side of the scale (5'8 175lbs) I cant find any holster that doesn't print horribly with the 92.

The 92 is a great gun, but it is W I D E which makes it a pita to conceal.
You mentioned the thunder 380, i had one untill my brother bought it, great little gun for the money, and putting a butler creek slip on grip sleeve will help it fill out your hands ....its the size that fits the walther ppk.

I carry a kel-tec p-11 using a belt clip (no holster) and it so comfortable i have fallen asleep wearing it, also you don't have to dress with carring in mind.....you can carry in gym shorts and a white tee if ya want:cool2:
