I've been out in western OK at the Great Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge the last few days. We were shut out on crane (didn't get any) but there were some Whooping crane there... this is a picture from 4 miles away.
Honestly, that is 3 adults and 1 juvenile; there are only about 230 left in the world...

Where we didn't get any sandhill crane while hunting Saturday morning, there were about 23,000 there and we did get some good pictures while scouting on Thursday and Friday.

Those in my earlier bottom two pictures are sandhill crane (gray) and there are TONS of them which is why there is a hunting season for them.
Whooping cranes are snow white with black wing tips, are on the endangered species list, and yes, there are only 230-ish of them left in the world.
Last year two young hunters, by accident, shot 3 whooping cranes. The federal game rangers had them mounted and one of them is on display at the salt plains.
