How often do you guys detail strip your carry guns? I have only carried my G27 for maybe a month or so but the back cover plate is jammed with lint/dust, so it would be wise to clean that area and make sure after it is cleaned to keep it dry as a bone. I understand Glocks have a good track record of working even when filthy but I think a carry gun should be cleaned fully maybe once a year since it get's exposed to a lot of dust and is probably the most important handgun you own. Do you guys go beyond the basic field strip once in a while and if so how often? Again this relates to your carry gun/guns mainly since those are the guns you depend on daily.

My carry is cleaned every 30 days. I wipe it down with a silicone cloth at the end of each day I carry it.
That same dust and dirt built up on the outside also gets inside the barrel, extractor, slide tracks....Everywhere.

What about detail stripping like all the parts from the slide and maybe even the frame, I'm not talking basic field stripping and cleaning. I'm talking about the firing pin channel etc.

I completely strip mine every time. Firing, extractor, main spring housing, trigger, mag release, hammer, etc... It all gets cleaned throughly. I may not be as thorough with the actual cleaning if it hasn't been fired since the last cleaning, but I still wipe everything down and re-lube periodically.
That's one of many things I love about 1911's. They are so easy to strip and put back together and they are actually kind of fun to do it to as well.

Watch the videos on field stripping Jason ,,you can get it to bare frame and gutted slide in a little over a minute if all the pins come out with ease.
The only time my guns get cleaned is after the range or after a weekend in the mountains

Once a week I blow out the barrel and slide of the LCP with compressed air ,Like you use on the PC keyboard .
then wipe down with oil .
Once a month I do a complete teardown and detail cleaning ....
The S&W 442 I blow off with Compressed air and wipe down with oil about Once a month ...:wavey:
