Well my oldest boy is 12 and taking his hunter saftey course Oct .3 & 4th.

So the hunt is on for a 20 gauge combo (both barrels)

I'm looking at mossberg / remington.

Any opinions on what's out there for the kid

Take him to a gun shop and let him hold various guns and let him decide what feels good to him. I guess you wouldn't want to end up with something too big or heavy for him.

My first shotgun when I was 10 or so was a single shot 12g.

Well it will be a 20 gauge ,,he's a big 12 year old ,,he's 5'7 so weight won't factor to much ,, it will probably be a mossy 500 or 870 youth combo...although Stoeger has a nice looking combo out there too.. We'll see in the upcoming weeks who has the best deals/sales

I thought we were supposed to nurture a childs imagination and talent, so if he wants a $1200 Benelli, step up Tcroc and buy him one! if money is tight Sell a kidney in new jersey then again you could always sell one of them pistol thingys :limp: yoo's gots laying around!! the toecutters pick would be the mossy 500a the ultimate beginners shottie! so let it be written, so let it be done!!!! LOL

Picked him up a Mossberg 500 Trophy Slugster 20ga.
It was the combo ,, a Cantilever Rifled Slug Barrel and a Field Barrel,, came with cheap scope too,,got it on sale at Dicks for $250.00 ,,,cant' beat that !!
He passed his hunter safety course today ,,so he got the gun and dinner at Red Lobster

The first gun i ever owned (still have it )
The first gun I ever bought (still have it )
and yes all 3 are different guns ...lol
