I posted a rant on one of my other forums about this, but in a nutshell, my mother Ford Explorer has been acting goofy. Idles very low, blows hot air from the A/C...

Anyway, she takes it to Goodyear. I told her all they'd do is hook it to a computer and if it can't find anything they won't know what to do next and will just tell her to come get it. I was right, cost $70 to do nothing.

The message I posted about it, a bud spoke up and said it sounds like the IAC solenoid...

Today she takes it to the Ford dealership and sure enough it's the IAC!!

She takes it to one place where they can physically see and hear it and it baffles them. I post a fairly vague message on the internet just bitching about it and someone nails it!

I don't know, maybe I'm just being too critical, but it seems to me that Goodyear place need to close it's doors.

I took my Camaro to them last year and the same thing happened. Computer didn't find anything and they could do a thing about it. Turned out to be a small slit in one of the spark plug wires.

I have used one of their places out here for the last 4 years and been happy, But you never know from place to place. I used to have a great Mechanic when I lived in Philly in the MT Airy section

Ya computers will only tell the mechanic if a sensor is sensing something is wrong. But that should not mean that the mechanic should stop there... that's just where you start...tell her to take it to a small local shop next time the big guys like to chew you and spit you out if it's not easy to find the problem.

She thought the warranty was still good on her ride, but after the fact they said it wasn't.

I have found a mechanic that does side work. He works for a dealership and is the guy who fixed my Camaro. Hell of a nice guy and honest.

The problem is he had my car for about 5 weeks since he could only work on it on his own time. Since I work from home that's not really huge deal, but for my mothers car she needs it to get to work with so letting someone hold on to for so long is kind of impossible.
