I'm not a big follower of the Smith & Wesson 1911A1 pattern pistol... I'm a much bigger fan of their wheelguns. I don't think anybody has hardly done it better regarding a modern DA revolver.
Yes, S&W is a newcomer to the "1911" market... and they have that dastard external extractor. Given that, the folks at Smith & Wesson have been making some fine semi-auto pistols for over half a century starting with their Model 39 if I'm not mistaken.
In all honesty, I must admit that regardless of my lack of exposure to one, the Smith & Wesson 1911A1 just might be a good shooter... at least that's what Xavier is saying over on his blog, Xavier Thoughts... and he actually has the "hands on" experience with more than one of them to offer a qualified opinion.

That's Xavier's photo above... yeah, they look nice... but it's gonna take a lot of persuasion to keep me from puttin' my money down on something other than a Colt or Springfield... but that's just me... you may feel completely different!
