I was/am looking for a sub compact .40S&W pistol. After looking around the G27 seems to be the obvious choice. It's not as small as the Kahr pm/mk 40 but it's cheaper(don't care about the price of the gun as much since ammo substantially more expensive than a gun over the course of a year or 2, the price of a handgun is a drop in the bucket when you take how much ammo you shoot, I don't mind paying for a better made handgun, I would rather shoot less), has more holsters available, has more capacity and you know you can abuse a glock and sweat on it and not care. What do you guys think about the G27? I am pretty much set on it after looking for a few weeks. If you were looking for a sub compact .40 what would you guys consider?

I owned a Glock 27 for over ten years. Flawless. Reliable. Acurite. Hard hitting.

I don't think you can go wrong with one!

MY Fav Glock, probly my fav .40..

I shoot my 27 better than any other pistol, why ?? I have no idea..You would think my 19 would be a better shooter but its not.

My 27 was my EDC until my G29 took over..

Can't go wrong with a Glock. I am a G19/23 size gun fan but would not hesitate to by a 26/27. You can not beat Glock reliability. Over 20 years and going strong.

You can get a 26, practice with 115 gr and carry +p ammo. It would be less expensive on the ammo side and the +p for carry would get you close to the .40 standard. I carry +p+ in my G19. Glocks are not rated for +p but you are not going to shoot thousands of rounds of it through it. Just a few for self defense. I put 150 +p+ rounds through my G19 just to be sure. It took them no problem.

why go thru all the trouble of the 9MM band aids (+p) , if they were adequate, why does everyone feel the need to upgrade to +p+, I dont get it.

Just get the .40 from the get go and be done w/it. Of course I didnt feel comfy w/just a .40 and now carry a 10MM :sexy:

That is a good price btw..in my neck of the woods, the avg G price is from $519-599. Most around $550..

Now go join the GSSF, get your certificate and get your next one for $398.00:D It takes about a month to get your certif. I ordered my G29 SF the same time I joined.. so both got here the same time.

.

+P+ is a joke,,some of it doesn't rate as good as +P
I don't get people that still think 9mm is inadequate
I use +P In my 9mm and 45acp ..why not

well its adequate but I am not happy w/ adequate.. not in my life, my career, my cars, my anything.. I like hi-perf. stuff. If it is available why not get the best. I have read too many stories about people being hit w/ 9s and having no effect

About 10 mins ago I spoke w/the cops doing OT in our ER. He has been on the street 17 years. 9s work fine on non meth, no crack, non pcp jacked up "women" lol. .. He has hit people w/them to no avail at all, even 4 or 5 shots before they slow down, even then barely..

He carries a Glock 21, the .45 is the only round he feels safe. he told me that in the civilian world, rarely is more than one to two shots fired and is usually at point blank range or just a few feet. Another reason to carry a heavy caliber if you only get one shot, make it a big one.

Unless your pulling a 12 gauge...It's called shot placement

I carry a 45 most of the time,,but I don't feel outgunned if I carry my G26,,modern day ammo has come a long way.

Anyhow ..enjoy your G27 Jason

I'll let ya know when it arrives, a side by side comparison to the 26 recoil wise would be interesting, plus it's been a while. I would carry 9mm .40 or .45, but at the moment, I really like the .40 for it's ballistics and capacity, it's a very good option between the 9 and .45.

sweet pick up,
first thing I do, is send it to the grip reduction guy, I hate the round back strap right in the middle(more like high) of the hand, make a BIG difference. i would have gotten the 19 and had the grip reduced and cut to a 26(or 23 to a 27 for you JK) I noticed that theres not a big difference in barrel length, and Im not a big fan of the double guide rod, also nice to have the light rail.. That being said I had no problem with either 26 or 27 I owned, just preference, also to note, I took the 26 out and shoot it against the 92 elite 2 I had and the glock shot a way tighter group, I really like the beretta for the hammer reliability and second trigger pull.
Funny story, I was thinking about thinning the heard so I was shooting many of the guns I have thinking, when I decided, time for the real test!!! I put a target at 20 yards( probably farther but) It was a left over black sticker backing where only the white was left, and I walked back picked up the G22(with grip reduction to a 23, which means only 13 rounds) and let them fly as fast as I could pull the trigger and get back on target, walked back down and counted 9 out of 13 holes in the white(about 7.5 inchs across makes the target)easily a head size target, and said thats good enough for me to carry.
Another thing I noticed, A g22 is the same length as a beretta centurion, makes you wonder, a beretta compact is the same size as a full duty size glock, HHHMMMMMMM.

also note some things to get.
wolf metal guide rod and spring with the extra power striker spring
next a couple extra mags with the pinky extension and the plus 2 one
some night sights, cant beat the big dot
and a comptac holster, go plastic, holds shape better.

Good luck, LLL

I bought a hogue grip, and trimmed it down to where it fits the 27, the grip is much improved. It added a tad bit of bulk to the grip but it is now comfortable to hold(and shoot...I will get it out this week or next weekend, I have been busy). It carries ok in a belly band(DeSantis), but because of the extra thickness compared to my 21a I find I really have to have the gun under my strong side arm pit, the 21a it did not really matter, it concealed easily. However I gained on every carry category with the G27 over the 21a bobcat .22lr, for just a shade larger of a gun. 9+1 of .40 is good enough for me, carrying one flush spare mag gives you 18+1 which is more than adequate for most situations, and certainly more than enough for concealed carry. The Hogue grip made a big difference for me, it cushioned the finger groove area that was pushing into my index finger...I love just adding a grip can make such a big difference.

I would finish cutting the grip at the bottom, not good to have that little lose extra. Maybe try a buttler creek I believe, same as a houge but thinner with out finger groves, might sit better.

It would just be cosmetic, but ya I could finish it, but it felt so good I was satisfied with it.

not really cosmetic, it alows a place for dirt and a place to get in the way of mag load, I allways(and been told by others) leave a little grip so its high and tight, I know this is hard with a small grip.
Like I said I wish I could let you see mine in person, thats sells it.
Go shoot the gun, and lets see where were at.

The 27 looks great, congrats

I shot about 200 rds thru mine today and I am convinced if I could find a way to shove a kitchen sink in the chamber, it would fire that as well.

I was supposed to be shooting my new Ruger 556 , burned thru 500 rds of that , then moved onto the G. I am think I am done "training" for the month.
