I'm just debating between a lasermax guiderod and the laser grips now...

I've had both and I prefer the Crimson Trace grips.
The problem I found with the lasermax is that when activated it pulsates instead of a single beam. That was annoying to me.
Plus with the slide locked back and you accidentally drop the gun or bump it hard enough you could easily bend or break it.
Another problem I had with it is the activation switch is built into the take down lever. When holstered that little button is easily activated. One day I walked around with a flashing red laser going off and I didn't notice it until someone asked what it was.
And for me, the laser was a bit of a pain to activate. The point of a laser IMO is to be able to quickly activate it. I had to fumble with it to turn it on, which of course would take focus off the target.
On the plus side though, it's easy to install...
The grips on the other hand avoids ALL of that. The switch is on each side of the grips and to activate it takes zero effort with a simple light squeeze of the grips, which does not distract you in anyway. You can have that laser on before you ever draw and off again by simply taking your finger off the button.
So IMO, the lasermax is cool and is best for the WOW factor. The CT grips are cool, good for the WOW factor and most of all more practical.
Very good company too. When I bought mine I bought them off ebay from a military guy that had been in Iraq. When I got them they still had dirt and sand on them. They still worked fine too!
I did notice the laser dot was a little distorted so I mentioned it on the their forums and was told to clean them. They sent me a little bag full of cleaning swabs and the custom made allen wrenches for the laser adjustment for free.
When I was unable to clean them following their instructions they told me to send them in and they'd look at them. Less than 2 weeks later I had a brand new pair of grips delivered. They even knew I bought them used! That's a pretty cool company.

I tried a set of the laser grips on my 92 yesterday - I didn't care for the "button" in my palm. I'm particular about the way a gun's grip feels to me.
I also played around with a rifle laser I already have. I managed to attach it temporarily to the top of my beretta. I then played around with it for a few minutes.
If I had to hurredly get my gun out of the holster and shoot someone fairly up close (parking lot robbery situation, for example). I found that I was quicker just pulling the fun and firing than using the laser and putting it on target and lookingf or the dot.
So, I think the laser has more use for me, personally, on longer distance shots. The lasermax is close to the bore, and suffers less from being off target at different distances.
While the lasermax requires a manual press of the switch - I think I would prefer that. The only wild card is that I am not sure how I feel about the pulsing laser thing.
So, its either lasermax, or I don't even bother to get a laser. That is what I am deciding now.
