I fondled one of these yesterday ~ I think I'm in love!!! http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/love/love0019.gif (http://www.mysmiley.net/freesmiley.php?smiley=love/love0019.gif)
Small enough for me to carry SOB, yet powerful enough to kick ass!
Next week sometime I'm going to rent one at the range and give it a try. If she handles as good as she looks, it will be my new carry...............

Sweeet! I think once you shoot it you'll probably love it. I've never shot a small 1911 though, but I can imagine it's a fun shooter. If you can, give the SA EMP a try too.
I used to be worried about carrying with that hammer cocked back, but as long the safeties are on and functioning properly there's no worries with it.
With my Galco shoulder rig I'm really not worried about it. If by some very odd chance that hammer does fall it will hit the leather strap locking it in the holster.
As I've said before I'd be more worried about carrying a Glock with one in the pipe than a 1911.

And thats always been the biggest myth,,it's just like carrying any other DAO or revolver ,,Glocks are black ,differant looking to many others,,scary looking ...therefore they must be more dangerous and you have more idiot types carrying them due to the Getto /rap bangers amd morons carrying them in no holster,,don't pull the trigger like any other gun,,holster it,,it doesn't go off..:love4::lol:

I am real good with safe handling but carrying cocked and locked does not sit well with me, I mean I love the idea(SAO) but you have to rely on the safety to do it's job...it's kind of hard to rely on a mechanical safety if you ask me. The more I think about it, DA/SA with one on the pipe is probably my preferred way because of safety, of course DAO is just as safe, I like both.

Still trying to find one!
I rented one at the range last week and LOVED it!! But not many places have them. Our local gun guy said he's not a Kimber dealer, and the other gun shop said we could order but it could be a long wait. Hubby is still looking around, but I'll probably just order one and wait. I have, however, been rethinking the cocked and locked thing..........

When I carry I usually carry in my shoulder rig. The thumb strap is between the hammer and the firing pin. So if there is by some WAY off chance devine intervention steps in and drops that hammer, it's going to strike a strip of leather and not the firing pin.
There are certain precautions that should be taken with 1911's though.
1. When I clean mine I completely strip them down to each and every part just short of taking the sights off.
When you put the sear, sear sping and disconnector back in you have to make sure it's done properly. The spring fits on there in a way that if done incorrectly it could be very dangerous when fired. Pull the trigger once and it will fire as if it's an automatic... You don't want to be holding one if it does that!
2. Once the gun is put back together and still unloaded test the grip and frame safety and make sure they work properly by themselves and together.
If it is a good quality and perfectly functioning 1911 I personaly believe it's one of the, if not the, safest gun made.

You have to remember that for a woman it's much harder to conceal. When I carry it's usually SOB, and that's not really a place I want to carry C&L! Depending on what I wear I could carry on my hip, but it's very rarely that I have something baggy on that would cover it.
Still not sure what I'm going to do here................

I carry SOB all the time. :) In the end you have to carry what you're comfortable and feel safe with.
On the flip side you could carry hammer down, but believe it or not with a 1911 that's actually the dangerous way of carrying if a round is chambered.
I have these conversations with Glockites all the time. I say I'd never carry one in a shoulder rig or SOB and really don't like carrying them loaded at all. For some reason they all seem to believe they are the safest guns in the world.

I don't think they are the safest in the world but I'd carry one of them loaded before a 1911 cocked and locked in a open top holster, that relied on manual safety comes off you could be fucked real quick with that single action and I can't stand holsters with thumb straps,,it's more obsruction that could pull/snag the trigger in a tense situation...espeacially in single action,,lol it's all opinion,,,in the end it's what you feel safe with like you said or what you THINK is safer

See, I can't understand that. In both cases the gun is loaded. Both have a round chambered. One has no safety at all and other has 2.
The Glock, all it would take is something to get caught in the trigger guard for the gun to go off.
The 1911 would require the grip safety and the frame safety to be off before that trigger could even be pulled. both of those safeties lock the hammer back.
The only thing preventing the striker in a Glock from doing it's job is the handler keeping his or her finger off the trigger. Then you take into account the massive number of people who puts the lightest trigger they can in these things.

For 1 I have 8 pound triggers in mine,, they arent' hair triggers,,and there is 3 safties 1) the trigger safety, 2) the firing pin safety, and c) the drop safety.Yes the trigger safety is the only external but in the gun is not fully cocked either,,only partial
My point is people who don't like glocks point to them instead of other guns that function same,,so your saying my P 250 DAO which has zero safties is safer with the same weight trigger pull? or a S&W M&P? How ?
Main point is some feel more cozy with external safety's and feel guns without them just go bang,,theres probably more out on the street with one in the pipe and no external safety than any other gun,,,and what do we hear on the news?Morons carrying that shouldn't be and doing dumb shit,,,you don't hear much of anything on the news ever about someone carrying concealed or open in a good holster and having a discharge from any gun,, external safety or not,,striker fired or not.
and sure with your 1911's you need all those safties,,it's cocked in single action with a very light trigger pull ,theres a differance.

I have recently come to a decision that I like DA/SA pistols for carry, no manual safety with a DA first pull acting as the safety. I do like the Glock trigger though but it would probably take me a few months to feel comfortable with carrying it with a round chambered:naaa:.

Precisely why I wanted you to shoot a striker fired before you just went out and bought a XDM to replace your Px4,,Striker's aren't for everyone,,nor is carrying cocked and locked,,if you don't trust them and are gonn'a worry your more prone to a accident IMO
