Here's something scary and something to really think about next time you're driving alongside an 18 wheeler.
The government contracts trucking companies to haul shit for them. Not just any ol junk either. Toxic, biological and nuclear waste and crap like that.
I saw this on the History channel a few years ago. The truck drivers don't even know what they're hauling. It's freaking scary! Every time I see a trucker pass me on the expressway like I'm sitting still I can't help wonder what he's hauling or how many people will die if he crashes that thing.

I wish I'd never taken a HAZMAT course for the P.D. It scared the hell out of me. Now I look for the trailer codes and know what's being held inside some of them and I slow my vehicle down and get away.

True, true. Although that is one way I pass the time on long road trips. I use the NAERG to look up the codes that I don't recognize. One side benefit. I was once pulled over by the Highway Patrol. When the trooper approached the passenger side, I already had the glove box open to get the L&R out and he saw the NAERG sitting there and asked if I was a cop. I said no, why? He pointed to the guidebook and wondered why I had it. I guess my reply of "well, part of my job is to ensure that the stuff I ship is properly identified so YOU guys know what you are dealing with when some psycho driver on a cell phone cuts off a big rig and they roll it into the ditch." He just started laughing and let us off with a warning. Good thing too, because I was FLYING low!
