seemed like the spot anyway...
have been wanting a 1911 for many years, but the price is always an issue.
now getting a bit better, the new question remains.
no not make, many out there are not much in difference except price and popularity for various reasons.
beings as i have a seasoned smith to watch over my shoulder, (i am also learning from him) would it be better to find a worn out used, or start with a frame from somewhere like brownells and build "ground up" so t speak.
i know price wise a complete build will run close to a decent "off the shelf" of average quality or above.
but i am also looking at the experience either a scratch build or ground up will offer in fitting, tuning etc.
comments?

Good question! I have been thinking very seriously about building my own as well.

You can't go wrong with buying one that's for sure. I have 3 different ones by 3 different companies and each one is probably as good as the next with few differences.

I've only had to deal with one customer service issue and that was from Springfield Armory. I cannot praise them enough. They get a 5 out 5 stars from me with everything from quality to professionalism.

I wish I could be more helpful with your decision, but it would seem to me the research on parts would be a bit more of a pain than deciding on which company to buy new from.

But to answer the question of buying a used worn out one, I'd say the breaking in process is part of the fun. I would probably avoid doing that unless it's just a great deal that can't be passed up.
