After pouring thru all the semi-custom models and brands (Ed Brown, Les Baer, RRA, Nighthawk) , I finally made a pick. I've owned several Springers thru the years, and have always preferred their feeling to others I've held. Thru process of elimination, I came up with the perfect gun for me...

Just ordered PC9112 - a custom full rail operator from the Springfield Custom Shop. Now, just gotta wait 10 months for the thing... Thats the bad part....

These are the specs... And, I'm getting it in 9mm, fixed sights (no adjustables) and matte hard chromed... But, it's still very close to the Springer Professional...

Just got confirmation on my specs from Springer...

Thanks. 10 months is gonna be a long wait.

It was this photo that inspired me - this is a plain TRP Operator (from a few years ago), but the guy had the Custom Shop serrate the rear of the slide and hard chrome it. I also don't care for his choice of grips, and mine will have fixed sights. However, it will look somewhat like this:

THis pic has stuck in my hed for the past week - and I finally decided to go this route after looking at Nighthawk, Ed Brown, and others...

I'd love to have a custom made SA. One of the only things I'd do different than what I have on my "Loadeds" is a checkered front strap, like in the above pic. That's the only thing missing from those guns I think.

If you don't mind me asking what does a custom SA run?

Well, this will be a 9mm one, and with a bull barrel. I also made a few other changes from the base custom model. It will be about $3k delivered.

I need to ask them, but I've NEVER seen a 9mm fullrail operator, let alone one from the custom shop. So, I may have the only one, or one of just a few.

Its guarenteed to shoot at least 2.5 inchest at 50 yards!

U do know that for just over $100 - you can get machine checkering from Springfield - of course, you have your cost of shipping, and the return shipping (they charge about 1/2 the shipping cost to return the gun as it costs for you to go to Fed Ex/UPS to ship it - so that's not TOO bad).

You'll also have to pay for refinishing - depending on the finish your Springer already has. But, with shipping both ways and the other costs - you could do it for $250 or less (the shipping costs sucks). While its there, you could have them do anything else you want at the same time, too...

I was thinking of sending in my MC Operator slide for flat toping and serrating the rear of the slide. But that's $75 + $160, plus the refinishing cost and the shipping... I decided that it wasn't worth it. I don't want the checkering on my MC Operator because I like the pachmeyer grips so much, I don't need it.

That's about what I thought. What is a bull barrel? I may be having a "duh" moment here. :)

A bull barrel needs no bushing. Whe done right - its actually more accurate than a bushing setup, as the lockup of the barrel to the slide can be tighter. also - the recoil spring stays captured during disassembly, and it comes out from the inside of the slide.

I had a bull barrel 1911 in the 1990s. I prefer the disassembly procedure of this over the standard setup.

Here is a pic of that above TRP I showed U - it shows U what it looks like

Really!!? That's all? I was just about to ask where I could get that done.

My Kimber has the checkering and I like it, but I don't take it out much. I may have to call them next week about this. When I shipped this gun back back to them before I think the cost was like $15, not too bad.

Wonder how long it would take?

Go to the Springer website - in the custom shop area - there is a PDF to download that lists the costs of all the custom mods. U can add it all up and know what it costs before U decide, and you don't have to call 100 times.

The time... I don't know that offhand - but someone on the 1911 forum had some stuff donw and he waited 3 months and just got it back. So, I would assume it may be that time frame.

I learned somehting new today. :) I can't image a 1911 being more accurate. Kind of scary.

Cool deal, thanks for that info. It's odd this comes up because I was really just about to ask about all of this. :)

Thanks, much appreciated. :) When you first posted about it went and downloaded it. I've been there before, but never looked at that form. I just assumed it was for having complete pistols made only.

Some very cool stuff in there too. Looks like they'll do custom work on any 1911 as long as it's not a POS.

I bet you can't wait. I can't wait. We want pics when it arrives. I like the one pictured.

I would love to get one of these some day, if I was ever going to spend that kind of money on a 1911.

I don't have a real hankering for it, so I have no issues waiting. I have other firearms on my list ahead of it as well.
