I quit smoking cigarettes years ago, but I do still like a good ciagr from time to time...

I recently bought some premium cigars and joined some sort of club with it... I think!

Anyway, as I'm checking into cigar types and all that I found this thing about a bill congress is pushing through to raise premium cigar taxes up 20,000%! That's right, Twenty-Thousand percent!

So if you like a decent $10 cigar and these fucing assholes actually pass this tax that 1 cigar will cost over $2000. If I did my math right.

Anyone else heard about this?

who the hell in their right mind would pay that for a stogie???? then again i always said i would quit smoking cigs if they raised the price to 2.50 a pack!! right now marlboro's are $5.44 a pack and i'm still inhaling!:limp:

When I quit smoking I think they were around $2.50 a pack. I wouldn't pay more than $2 a pack. Think of the guns you buy with money you save from quitting that shit. :)

Cigars though, I don't smoke a lot of them. Once a week for the most part when I'm drinking. I just can't imagine a 20,000% tax on anything. I think someone, probably a damned democrat, lost their fucking mind.

While I don't smoke cigars much except for Al Capone's, I decided to see what you were talking about David. I found this http://www.sptimes.com/2007/07/17/Business/Cigarmakers_in_a_pani.shtml

According to the article the tax on a cigar is 4.8 cents. So a 20,000% increase in the tax comes to $9.60. THat doesn't affect the sales tax, just the federal tax collected on it.

Just thought I would pass this along.

Thanks! I didn't dig too deep into it, but knew there had to be more to it.

That's still insane though. A $2 cigar will cost over $12.
