I voted necessary because they ARE connected to the Beretta name. There's a time and place for everything. That's why I like this forum too. I'm hoping more of the BF brothers will come over here and relax a bit. :Peace!:

I voted other for the following reasons.
1. While BF is affiliated with Beretta, I am an adult and can excersise my freedom of speech when and where I choose.
2. While BF states they are a family friendly forum witht he age requirement of 13, I have yet to view any posts from someone not at least 18.
3. If there are children who are allowed to view the posts on the forum, then they need to make certain areas restricted, such as the classifieds section, the smithing section(especially posts dealing with blackpowders and reloading), The lounge is another area where children shouldn't be hanging out.
4. If they really wanted to be a family friendly forum, they would have sections just for children and underage individuals who are not old enough to purchase their own gun to be able to post on.
Just saying it's a family friendly forum doesn't make it automaticly safe for anyone in the family to be able to read everything that is said.

I understand some people are sensitive to words, but telling people how to talk then have the balls to tell them they can't express themselves is a bit too much for me.
Saying "shit" is against the rules. Replacing said word with Sh!t is against the rules and even replacing all of that with Q#$^ is against the rules.
The site is for discussions of Beretta firearms, the index page states "This site is a discussion and information forum for enthusiasts of Beretta firearms and the shooting sports. This site is not affiliated with nor does it represent Beretta USA (Accokeek, MD) or Fabbrica D' Armi Pietro Beretta S.p.A. (Brescia, Italy)." If they don't want anything other than the discussions of said firearms they need to let be known and remove any forum that deviates from those discussions.
Not allowing or controlling people because they use the Beretta name is a weak defense at best. If people using certain words or expressing themselves reflects negatively on Beretta, what do they think stifling peoples right to free speech does?
If it is in fact rules given or suggested by Beretta then I'll have no problems withdrawing my support for them and selling over $5k of their guns I own and giving my business and support to another company...
Again though, I do doubt Beretta has anything to do with any of the rules there. If anyone really has issues with the way the Beretta name is being used or misused, I'd suggest letters of protest to Beretta. That site is nothing more than FREE publicity so I doubt they'd have anything to say one way or the other.
Personally, I can't stand the type of person who will fight for their own rights, but piss on others because they disagree with it. How can you support and defend the 2nd amendment and deny the 1st?

Since I started this poll I may as well say something. I have been on BF just about 2 years and been in the middle of more than one conflict over there. Ask ge or Davivid Bello or SRFL they know my views well. I agree with JK here on the first two (did I really say that?). I have views on a lot of the other shit they push but this one makes them look foolish in my opinion. I still visit there and have some friends there that have noit come over here and get some good info but they are heavy handed on the control side IMO. And also that farce about representing for Beretta because one or two get smal perks that is :bsflag:

Wow...
OK, I put "other".
This is America and if they (owner of the forum) want that, then they should be able to have that.
Additionally if people don't want that, they should have a place they can freely express themselves... ie AGOF :beavisnbutthead:
Funny, I hadn't noticed the rule but depending on work I'll be on these either pretty heavy or not at all so I tend to miss a bunch periodically...
I'm sure they probably don't like a lot of my $#!+, cr@p, etc...
Oh well, I'll behave when I'm over there.

Yo guys the sticky on forum language over there has been closed just today! Because Dpeters said he agreed with Foto, well he just said Foto wrote really well...check it out. Last night around 2 am I wrote"why wont you let the word filters do their job?" I made it a little bit longer but I was asking them why they don't use the word filters, why do they just say don't use bad language...then what the hell is the point of word filters:poke: I then deleted my own message 10 mins later, since I still like to visit there:lol:. I think it's hilarious they closed the language thread today...I bet my left  that I know who closed it;)

I think the percentage calculator is broken. It is looking like there is a 160% tally. Maybe we need an abacus.
Or it could be GOP Voter Fraud

Nah, it's ok. This poll is multiple choice where people can select more than one option. So the numbers are going to exceed 100%.
If it was a simple poll, yes or no for example, it would only go to 100%.

So I can say that BF is more than 100% wrong about this if the numbers show that?

Just wanted to shed some illumination on this subject... :p
I'm gonna side with Foto's position... but at the same time I'm not totally surprised by their move and decision.
I visit another forum that is way more restrictive and "sanitized" regarding language usage.
Do these rules bother me? Of course they do. However, there's too many good folks involved in those forums to allow pinheaded and autocratic grammar nazis to run me off.
Whether you want to call it down on "13 year old girls" or "an international membership"... it's all the same in the end.
I seriously doubt that most 13 year old girls are gonna read some "expletives" on a gun forum that they haven't already heard at school.
Regarding the other one... well, if someone outside the good ole' U.S.A. gets their panties in a wad over a choice "word" because of what it may or may not mean in their "culture"... well, then just piss on 'em.
Our obsession with being "PC" has just gone too far fuckin' out of hand.
I became more convinced the other day when I read on one of Google's "online" news link about these two 12 and 13 year old boys who were facing criminal charges for playing grab ass with some girls at their school.
That's right... criminal charges. The school administrators and the local DA have been playing with this one for more than a few months trying to decide just what they can "charge" these two kids with.
What the hell ever happened with "boys will be boys"???
I'm not approving what they did as model behavior, but the damned PC school admins want to send "a message" about females being victimized.
The only thing they need to do is...
Put some leather across these boys backsides. Make sure these young girls aren't dressing provocatively at school. Fire the school's administrators forthright.

I too tend to agree with the articulate and well thought out opinion of Foto. What gets me is that this went one for at least 2 years that I have been there and now it is an issue. Hell, Damn and OH SHIT they can hear most of the words on TV and all of the in PG 13 movies. So I fail to see what the big F%$^#$G issue is.
What got me was the number of people on ther that last week spent so much time trying to get an 18 YO, that was new to the forum and no one knew a way to get his hands on a 92FS. That worries me more

I caught that last part too... the 18 YO wanting a Beretta 92FS... agreed.

You know he got it somehow and I wonder who there helped and how much. To me, even though I am a firm pro 2nd guy, there need to some rules

I gave them legal precedence, legal law, Florida State Statutes and a logical argument. I don't like 18 year old civilians driving cars yet owning a handgun.
I did everything to convince them not to do it...someone's gonna get it eventually and they're gonna have the BF to blame. Sounds like a straw-purchase will eventually happen. Oh well...

I know you only stated the facts and that is cool but if I could remember which thread it was I think he succeeded. I had a problem with the guys there that we advising on how to get it without knowing anything about the kid.

Everyone should have steered a wide course around that kid... and the mods should have locked the thread.

I remember reading that post... and only wondering what might happen.
Guns are an adult's game... I tend to worry about youngsters who are so obsessed with owning guns. There's just too many other attractions on the plate for them at so young an age, or at least there should be.
Of course, the entire picture is flawed by the lack of parental involvement that I percieved reading his threads... this was a kid with money thrown at him and parents who were not checking in.

Yeah I have to agree about the whole pistol buying situation with that 18 yr old. While I don't necessarily have a problem with someone who is 18 owning a pistol. I do think that that would be the parents responsability to not only educate the young man, but to also surpervise his use of the gun.
Why it didn't raise a red flag , I can't understand. Because it struck me odd that he reported having used guns all his life, but didn't want to wait 3 more years. If his parents were more involved what he was doing, gun wise, then it seems they would have gotten the gun for him. But what bothered me even more about the situation is that it seemed there were a lot of people ready to help him buy it.
I steered clear of the whole thread, but kept an eye on it. And I appreciate all the info that you gave him Sinatra, it was very sound advice. Especially in regaurds to ccw permit age and being caught with a gun while not being old enough for a permit. Hopefully someone from BF isn't the one that sold it to him. If someone from BF did, then I hope that the young man stays out of trouble for both of their sakes.
