Found a new range. The nicest I've been to actually. (the bullets stay downrange :D) Ted Nugent is known to frequent the place. It's a pretty huge place and they are fully stocked. Anyway, I finally had a chance to try out my new PF-9. I've had and sold a P-11 and still own and love my P3AT. I'll try to get some pics up of the targets soon.
First off I've heard some horror stories about the PF-9 trigger breaking after 50 rds. +FTF after the 3rd round and stovepiping. I experienced none of these problems myself. The only hickups were when my GF was shooting it. She was limp wristing :limp: and she had 2 FTF's after the third round. And it is a bugger to clear when that happens. You have to keep the slide pulled back as you, un jam the bullet back into the mag with you finger as you simultaniously push the mag release and THEN push the mag out from the top. I think it is a problem with the mag, not the gun. The mag spring pushes on the follower unevenly. At first I thought this thing was a piece of junk. This kind of unreliability may get me killed if I HAD to use it.
I pressed on and kept shooting. I really wanted to like this gun, and do. I had no problems whatsoever when I shot it and as it broke in the action got alot smoother. I ran about 150 rounds through it to make sure of it's reliability. No problems.
Accuracy- I was shooting consistant 6 inch groups at 10 yds. with the occasional stray. Those were due to getting used to the DAO trigger stacking. Pretty good for such a short barrel. It will definately serve in the purpose it was meant for. Once I get an Armalaser on it I'm sure I could get the grouping down to 3 inches.
Recoil- Surprisingly manageable. A bit snappy, but what could you expect for a 9mm that weighs 12.7oz.? I had to take a little break every 3 mags. You definately get more bang for your $$$.
Ergos- Field stripping is easy enough. Pull retaining pin out, push slide forward. Easy. BUT let me tell you, getting it back together the first few times is a pain in the ass. It's pretty finicky but once you learn the "trick" to it, it's easy enough.
The mag release is the type you have to push as you insert the mag. No big deal but kind of annoying. I've heard if you slam the mag home you will break the mag release. WTF? But I know someone who mills metal mag releases for it so you could always upgrade if you wanted.
Something that bothers me about this model is the absolute unavailability of extra mags. (If anyone finds somw let me know.) I'm also still waiting for the beltclip to come out as well.
Overall the PF-9 is a very affordable, concealable, and powerfull little weapon.
I highly recommend picking one up if you are lucky enough to find one.
Now the P3AT. I have an Armalaser on mine. If you don't know what that is go to armalaser.com. It is a VERY good product. I know the inventor (Rick) and he is a very helpful guy and he stands behind his product. It has an automatic touch-on sensor in the trigger guard which is VERY cool. You just have to experience it. It dramatically increases accuracy in these little pistols.
Suffice it to say. Last time I was out at the range, I shot the little X right out of the middle of the target on the first shot. :crossbones:
If any of you have any questions let me know.
Thanks for reading.
