Here is a picture of my S&W 5906 PC-9 Tactical Edition. It is called a "shorty nine" because it the barrel is only 3.5" long. The standard 5906 is a 4" barrel. There are only 50 of these made. The pistol is engraved on the top serialzed denoting that there are only 50 produced. You can see the mark that it came from the peformance center.

WAL, that's one exquisite Smith & Wesson jewel you got there... do you shoot this one or is it a "safe queen"?
"One of Fifty" made sounds kind of rare to be a daily shooter to me!
BTW, if you'll resize your photo to not exceed 800 x 600 pixels, it won't stretch off the screen ...

TcRoc, the Smith & Wesson Model 27 has been referred to as the Mona Lisa of revolvers... I won't disagree with that accolade!

My 83 yo downstairs neighbor showed me the most beautiful S&W I have ever seen. It was a Dan Wesson .357 and came with 4 interchangeable barrels (2", 4", 6" and 8") two hand carved wooden grips (one piece not panels) and the greatest blueing I have ever seen. If I can get pics I will post them. He said he picked it up in a yard sale in FL over 30 years ago.

So you were roughly what... 30 to 40 years old?

To clif731 - sorry not to respond until now.
It was fired a few tomes just to try. Besides that it sits in the safe.
It is a great carry and I have a brigade IWB hloster but I prefer to cary my compact. I have removed the outside saftey lever on the compact.
Best regards,
WAL

I understand... sometimes the temptation to shoot a new gun is simply too much to resist... :AR15firing: :2gunsfiring:

Thanks The top one, the 686P, is new; the no-dash was born in 1982 and the dash-1 in '87.

Not the best picture, but being that it was my fathers service revolver when he was a LEO I am very proud of it.

If you think that's shiny you should see the insides. :cool2:Spotless. I don't think it had been cleaned for about 10 years. I cleaned it for about an hour or so. A labor of love. This pistol is now my mom's nightstand piece. When I got it from the uncle it still had a round in the chamber. My Gpa didn't mess around. :crossbones:

That would definitely be a labor of love... nice "nightstand" piece for sure. Too often these types of family heirlooms get "lost"... if you know what I mean. Sounds like your Grandfather stayed "prepared & ready"!!!

That is a beauty! I loved the Shorty Nine in 9mm a fine looking pistol and probably quite valuable.

Love that Smith 36 - I like/have always liked mine - it often tags
along with me when I travel - Gale even likes it.

As mentioned before - here's another really good
'S&W' shooter - from another thread.
Actually, one of my very favorite SA shooters is
my New Model No.3 .44 Russian Schofield
(repro S&W) - they were perhaps the best target
handgun in the 1870's and 1880's. If you ever get
a chance to shoot one - give it a whirl - very nice
balance and the accuracy is excellent! I understand
that they are also chambered for .45 LC, although
I have never shot one.

Horse soldiers liked them better than their M1873 Colts
because of their speed of reloading at a full gallup! For
a while the Army had used both during the same time
frame.
