At the range tonight I saw a Smith&Wesson 1911. I failed to get the model, it's a .45 though. It's used, but looks NICE. The seller is asking $750 for it. I don't know, $750 just seems to be a bit steep for a used gun.

It looks so sweet though. I may see if he will take $650 or see if I can put a few rounds down range to see if I like it enough to drop that kind of cash if not.

What do you guys think?

and certainly one of Springfield's nicer 1911A1 pistols... and some other brands. Check out what else is on the market if you're in that price range. See what Bud's Gun Shop is offering for NIB 1911A1 shooters... Colt and Springfield especially.

However, David, that's not to say that S&W doesn't make a primo 1911A1... and if the one this guy has for sale is calling your name, check S&W's website for the current MSRP of the exact model he is offering. Since his is "used" I too would insist on a "test drive"... if he says no, walk away.

Now that you mention that my IDPA director has a few Colts he's selling, or he was. I know his are top notch. He let me shoot one a match one day I loved it.

I do believe I will hold out for a Colt. Price range isn't really the main factor, but badass is I think. I'll but down the bucks if it's worth it. From what I understand Colt is definitely worth it.

I'll have to go back and see what the model is. I was there for IDPA and just quickly browsed the gun case. It did catch my eye, obviously in a "I want that" kind of way. Beautiful gun though. I'll see if I can test her out.

If no more than the fact that Colts' products just don't hardly lose value in the marketplace... however, it goes far beyond this fact alone. They are extremely well built and when you're talking M1911A1... well, they built the first ones. David... it's almost impossible to be disappointed with one... and I can easily see owning a S&W 1911A1 too. There is another legendary name in American firearms!!! Perhaps your plan could be to acquire one of each (in due time)!!!

I'm just afraid that once I start I won't be able to stop buying them. Probably the only guns I find prettier than a Beretta. :)

A Beretta addiction is "bad"...

A 1911 addiction combined with a Beretta addiction is "worse"... much worse. http://forum.m1911.org/images/smilies/scared.gif
Combine those with a wheelgun addiction... kiss your normal life good-bye... http://forum.m1911.org/images/smilies/nitey.gif
