I'm looking to get started reloading for .45 acp and eventually some rifle. I was thinking about a Lee Turret kit and adding a few extras like a caliper and what not.

I would love to get a Hornady Lock-N-Load, but the press itself is pushing $400 without dies or anything else. I'm not interested in dropping between $600-$700 to get setup going.

Recommendations for equipment?

Honestly, that's about what you'll spend to get going if not more. There's the press, the scales, the dies, the cases, bullets, primers, powder, lubes and then there's the case tumbler, media, separator and I'm sure I'm overlooking something.

As for recommendations all the reloading guys I know use the Dillon 550B or the XL 650. The latter being for serious reloading. The 550B is right at $400 and the scales are at minimum around $50.

They say reloading is cheaper than buying it...

I highly recommend the classic turret kit! I really like mine. Solid, well made press! I primarily reload 45 acp and 44 mag and just recently started reloading for my rifles.

You can use it as a turret (to crank out 45, 44 and 223 ammo) or you can take out the square indexing rod and use it as a single stage to load (i use for 243, 25-06, 270, and 30-06). I got mine from Sue Kempf at http://www.kempfgunshop.com/products/reloading/leeprecision/kits/KempfKit.html great service and super fast shipping! :)

Another nice feature is that is has 4 hole turrets (about $9.00 to $12.00 depending on where you get them) where you place your dies. I have about 8 of them, one for each set of dies. If I am doing 45 acp and want to do 44 mag I just pop out the turret and pop in the one with 44 mag dies. No need to reset all your dies. Right now you can get4 hole turret seconds on Lee's websight for $6.00. I got about 4 or so not too long ago and they work fine but are a little rough around the edges (nothin a file can't fix) plus they only charged me about $4.00 to ship. Here's that link http://www.leeprecision.com/cgi/catalog/browse.cgi?1203294079.4369=/html/catalog/surplus.html

If you need some pics or more info let me know! You know where to find this primate!

I can get all the equipment I need through a kit with dies for under $250...buying components is where the price is a variable based on the bulk/quantity of supplies. I have close to 1500 .45 acp casings and I already have a tumbler.

Is that the Lee kit for that price?

Yeah, there is a Lee Turret kit that gives you most of what you need. I was planning on adding dies, a caliper, and a bullet puller with a few other odds and ends like ammo boxes.
