View Full Version : This might save your life...

I had given consideration to placing this one in the "Roll Call Room"... as it's very specific to LE officers... but after carefully reading Xavier's article, the implications of the FBI's report are so serious that I'm now convinced such needs more exposure. In other words, this affects us all... and in life it's the unexpected that can hurt you and it's "what you don't know" that becomes the "unexpected".
Read about it here... "FBI Report on Cop Attackers Released" (http://xavierthoughts.blogspot.com/) from Xavier Thoughts blogsite.
The world has changed from what I used to know. What you may learn just might save your life someday.

Very interesting read. I planned on building a "defense" blog here. If we could get enough participation it could be interesting and educational as well.

Great idea you got there, David... I hope you can put it together.
Wayne, I was kinda shocked reading Xavier's blog about this... I "heard" some of it before, but he fairly well glued it all together.
Bottom line is there's a entirely different breed of criminal lurking on the streets today... and if they won't hesitate to gun down a police officer, then they will consider us (civilians) as an easy target.

So the basic points are:
1. Today, criminals are more willing to take another life without 2nd thought(not sure if that has ever changed, just more criminals on the st. today IMHO.)
2. Criminals practice just as much as peace officers with firearms most of the time they practice more.
3. Criminals win alot of firefights because they have the element of surprise.
4. Criminals almost never wear holsters and they like to stash the gun in the crotch area or in the small of the back most of the time.
5. A criminal can go from happy joy joy to taking another's life without thinking about it, and 95% of their guns are from Illegal purchases...think I got all the main points.
Thanks for posting.

Good conclusions, Jason. ;)
Evidently, not only are there more "bad guys"... but the criminal element is more inclined to shoot first and shoot to kill. True, how this applies to any of us depends in part on where we live and where we go. My personal opinion is that someone living out in rural America is less likely to encounter the type of "bad guy" the FBI report focuses on than someone who is living in a major metropolitan area... especially close to the inner city.
Of course, I think Wayne has hit on something very big too... the absolute need for someone who is going to CCW to engage in formal training and then practice, practice and more practice- frequently and repetitively. Getting active in defensive type pistol competition as a regular participant sounds like a good way to accomplish said "practice".
Perhaps a session at a Gunsite, Thunder Ranch or Frontsite or one of the others might be the ticket. In lieu of that, some bought time with a well qualified instructor might pay life long dividends.

Thanks for the post Cliff. Lots of good info there. The only unfortunate thing is, that the anti-gunners will never listen to it or worse they will treat it as pro-gun retoric and dismiss it in the press.
I appreciate you bringing this to our attention. I have added the website to my bookmarks for gun info.

That's a good one Wayne... so it is... vacation $$$ for vacation. Don't go pilfering the funds or you might just get ventilated by an enraged female... :(

Thanks, KPierce... and I doubt we'll see this report making any waves in the media thanks to the bias towards the anti-gun lobby. Xavier's blogsite does have some good gun info... and some interesting commentary too.

Audrey favorite new line is "I know where the guns are!" But she does not scare me. She can't remember the combination to the safe

The place that I went for my CCW training offers several Advanced courses ONCE you have your CCW from the State. I've taken two and besides individual range practice, shoot what my local range has titled "Back Alley Shooting Society." A bunch of us shoot indoor IDPA stages more geared to real BG encounters, some with hostages, some in the dark, some with lights blinding you; they really mix it up a lot. It's really neat and I think at the very least, puts you in situations that MAY occur so your not toally surprised or will have a thought on what is the best action to take. It's scored like IDPA - time and shot placement.
Of course, I realize NONE of these puts you in the same position you'll be in during a real confrontation. I hope I never have that kind of experience, but am reasonably confident I will be able to deal with it.

I think that goes somethin' like this...
"Babe, you've got the key to my heart... but you ain't gettin' the combo to my gunsafe!!!" :violin:

Dino, it isn't a big stretch to imagine you're gonna be way more "prepared" for an "emergency" than most CCW folks... :whs0be:

I didn't say that. Preparation and practice hone your skills. If you don't practice . . . no skill.
I'm not an experienced LEO, not a gunslinger, don't have any illusions of grandeur, just someone that knows I need to practice to even begin to be somewhat prepared. Will I do the right thing if it happens? Don't know; I don't think anyone that hasn't "been there" can predict what they will do.
The only thing that I feel that I am better prepared for is over someone that gets their CCW, carries a gun, and doesn't do any form of practice or learn to shoot their carry gun accurately. I have a friend that did that. Got his CCW, carries, and hasn't fired a shot or even dry-fired practice at home since.
I certaily didn't mean to imply that I am "better than most."

Not at all, Dino... I didn't mean to say you were "better than most"... or to imply that you felt superior in skill and devoid of fear for what could happen.
You stated it all very well... that in comparison to a CCW who doesn't practice (such as your friend), your preparation provides essential training and just as you related, skill.
Sorry if any confusion erupted out of what I wrote.

Thanks for the post Cliff. Great information.
One note on the posted link. The link will bring you to Xavier's blogsite and automatically display the blog of the day. Today's is a very nice blog about eBay's senseless gun policies-funny too "we have no idea what bullet tips are but they sound deadly".
To read the blog cited on this thread, type in "cop attackers" in the "search blog" box at the top of the page.

Thanks, RF... I'm glad you found that blog to be enjoyable. Yeah, I noticed too the contents sliding down. Good tip you gave also. The "bullet tips" posting and link to that eBay auction had me rolling. Just for the fun of it, I went yesterday (Aug. 13th) and bought specific AR stuff off eBay's site... yes, eBay... those things I bought are only used with an Evil Assault Rifle!!!
