I've been thinking of a little Stoeger Youth .410 O/U. They run about $300.00 and it would be a great camp/bugout shotty with a little work. Keep in mind I will be observing all BATFE/NFA1934 regulations with these modifications.

1.) Cut down the stock: The barrel will still be 18" and the overall lenth will excede the minimum 26". Just a pistol grip O/U .410 to stick in my pack.

For scaring the wildlife that should take an interest in me. Or to get food should I end up "stuck in the stix."

I just went and picked up one of their Condor Outback O/U's at the local shop for $288. They also had 20 & 410's, I think the 410 was $299.
Seems like an OK gun. I pulled the stock to check out the trigger assembly and it doesn't scream of 3rd world country or anything like that. The gun is nice and tight. I got it simply to give it a try. Anymore about the only thing I hunt (bird wise) is sandhill crane. When I go on my Texas panhandle hunt we hunt over mounted birds in blinds with wooden tops and handles so you lift it up, throw it off behind you and come up shooting. The design will really make it easy to bring up with a single hand, take the safety off and for the most part get ready to shoot while my other hand is clearing the blind lid.
(naturally I'll take my Beretta A391 Xtrema too in case this one doesn't work out)

I just started trap shooting and looked at that Stroeger today at Dick's for $288. Let me know I think I may move to that. I have been using a Mossberg Silver Reserve o/u 20 Gauge but the barrels are shorter than the Stroeger and I think I want to go with the 12 GA. Last night was my 2nd try at Trap shooting and I hit 29 out of 50. Not to bad I think for my 2nd try.
